He Says It! He Says “Get Over Here!”
It is finally happening, Kombatants. We have tracked the slow progress of the Mortal Kombat movie’s production, but it is finally ready. Fans have been treated to some dope movie posters and a wonderful trailer. The red band trailer is obviously the only way to watch it, so that’s what we will be diving into. There are posters for each of the main fighters; Cole Young, Sonya Blade, Sub-Zero, Scorpion, Kano, Mileena, Kung Lau, Liu Kang, Raiden, Jax, and Shang Tsung. Writer Greg Russo promised an R rated Mortal Kombat and the production team has delivered.
The trailer shows us clips that reveal the origins of the characters within the movie, but also makes a lot of references to the video games. We see Scorpion’s tragic loss of his family at the hands of Sub-Zero and the creation of his classic chained kunai weapon, as well. We also see how the film justifies Jax’s robotic arms. He loses his fleshy arms to Sub-Zero, who ends up having the cools parts of the trailer. In an epic showdown between Sub-Zero and Scorpion, we hear the classic “Get over here!” line, but we also see Sub-Zero perform an ice-wall throw from Mortal Kombat 11, which is a lovely touch.
There is also an appearance from Shang Tsung calling to “finish them!” An apt end to the trailer has Kano declaring his victory, saying “Kano wins”, holding the heart of his enemy in true Mortal Kombat fashion. Mortal Kombat will debut in theaters and on HBO Max on April 16th.
