Mechwarrior Fans Have a Little Longer to Wait
One of the unexpected downsides of the constant Cyberpunk 2077 delays has been felt by other developers who originally had their games slated for certain release dates, only to suddenly find themselves going up against one of the year’s most anticipated games. Path of Exile was originally slated to release their latest DLC next month, for example, only to be pushed back to January to avoid Cyberpunk. Similarly, Rockfish announced that they were pushing back the release of Everspace 2’s Early Access, citing a significant overlap in the fanbase.
Now, another game has decided to wait for Cyberpunk 2077 to release before coming out, as Mechwarriors 5: Mercenaries has delayed its release on further platforms to Spring 2021, with developer Pirahna Games confirming that they were eager to avoid competing with CD Projekt RED’s blockbuster release.
“Any developer wants their titles to get as much attention as possible, and obviously sharing a release date with Cyberpunk was less than optimal. Day one sales and marketing are so important to a successful product launch, and we believe that rescheduling our release date will allow MechWarrior 5 Mercenaries to have the opportunity and attention it deserves.”
The good news for fans of the franchise is that the game’s DLC, Heroes of the Inner Sphere, will release on the same day, and the delay only affects the game’s Steam release – the game will now release on all applicable platforms (Steam, GOG, Microsoft Store, Xbox Series X/S, and Xbox One) on the same day, which the developer hope will give it greater exposure. This also gives them time to finetune the final product.
If you can’t wait to play Mechwarrior 5, the good news is that it’s already out on the Epic Store.
