In the Sushant Singh Rajput case, the Narcotics Control Bureau has started an investigation following fresh allegations linked to WhatsApp chats reportedly recovered from Rhea Chakraborty’s phone.
The Narcotics Control Bureau has initiated an inquiry under sections in the law related to possessing, purchasing and using Cannabis and “abetment and criminal conspiracy to commit an offence” under the anti-drugs law.
Rhea Chakraborty’s lawyer has said she has “never consumed drugs in her life”, responding to allegations that the 28-year-old was in touch with drug dealers.
“Rhea Chakraborty has never consumed drugs in her life time ever. She’s ready for a blood test any time,” her lawyer said in a statement.
The Narcotics Control Bureau is the latest agency to be drawn into the case involving the death of the 34-year-old actor, which is already being investigated by the CBI and the Enforcement Directorate. The Mumbai police and Patna police also probed the case, which has sprouted massive speculation and conspiracy theories over the last two months.
The CBI, which began its probe in the case after a Supreme Court order last week, is also expected to probe the angle of drug use.
According to reports, the Enforcement Directorate has come across some WhatsApp chats on Rhea Chakraborty’s phone, which was seized for a money laundering probe. The chats have been shared with the CBI.
Rhea Chakraborty is likely to be questioned by the CBI in the coming days in connection with the probe into the circumstances leading to the death of Sushant Singh Rajput on June 14, which left thousands of fans of the Bollywood star in shock.
Sources say the messages include an alleged conversation about procuring drugs between Rhea Chakraborty and a person saved on her phone as ‘Miranda Sushi’.
Sources add Sushi was a nickname for Sushant Singh Rajput and Miranda probably refers to Samuel Miranda, his manager.
Samuel Miranda was questioned by the CBI on Tuesday.
Last month, Sushant Singh Rajput’s father KK Singh had filed a First Information Report or FIR at Patna accusing Rhea Chakraborty, Sushant Singh Rajput’s girlfriend, of mentally harassing him, taking his money and driving him to suicide.
The FIR named Rhea Chakraborty, her parents, brother Showik, Sushant’s former manager Shruti Modi and Samuel Miranda, along with others.
Sushant Singh Rajput was found dead at his Bandra home on June 14. Mumbai Police had said it was a death by suicide based on the autopsy, viscera report and witness statements. The investigation was taken over by the CBI last week.
