Instagram like stories format was and still is as popular as ever with almost every major platform adopting it in one format or another. The most recent adopter of stories was Twitter who introduced “Fleets” on its platform. Now, there is news going around that Spotify is also going to add its own stories. The news was first seen on Engadget where it showed that Spotify’s Christmas Hits playlist had something new going on that wasn’t music related. Yes, Spotify is adding stories on its platform.
Spotify confirmed to Engadget that these Spotify stories are still being tested. “At Spotify, we routinely conduct a number of tests in an effort to improve our user experience,” a Spotify spokesperson said in a statement. “Some of those tests end up paving the path for our broader user experience and others serve only as an important learning. We have no further news to share on future plans at this time.” It remains unclear if the average listener will be able to add stories as well or it will exclusively be reserved for artists.
As of now, Youtube, Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, WhatsApp, LinkedIn, Snapchat, and many more have adopted this stories format on their platform. Spotify was already testing stories feature but only for artists on its platform. It seems that after Twitter launched Fleets, Spotify also felt that they need something similar. It is no secret that listeners can share what song they are listening with their followers on Instagram stories via the Spotify share option. However, Instagram now also has its own music library that its users are using to share the music they like.
Spotify has been quite aggressive in its expansion with the streaming service acquiring Megaphone to strengthen their podcast infrastructure. Recently the music streaming service has also launched its Russia operations. In India as well Spotify has amassed a big listener base however it still faces tough competition from services like AirTel Wynk, Jio Saavn, and Amazon Prime Music.
