As the Developers Intended
Shakedown: Hawaii is both a parody and throwback to the original Grand Theft Auto games. You know, the top-down shooter. It also is a bit of a parody of Hotline Miami, which itself is a throwback to classic 80s aesthetic. Developer Vblank Entertainment takes the whole throwback and classic elements of Shakedown: Hawaii and turns it up to 11 though. It grabbed our attention earlier this year when physical copies were being made for Wii and Wii U, but they’re at it again with Shakedown: Miami cross-buy on the PS5 release.
What’s being described as “cross-buy” is nothing new. You buy it on one platform and you can play it on another. Microsoft has Xbox Play Anywhere titles, both Xbox and PlayStation have backwards compatibility, but cross-buy is for Shakedown- Hawaii. In this case, when if you buy it on PS5, Vblank Entertainment is making sure that you can play it on the earlier PlayStation consoles PS4 and PS3. That’s right, we’re going back two generations. It’s pretty crazy and definitely not necessary, but it’s also totally on-brand for Vblank Entertainment.
If you like top-down shooters like the old school GTAs or Hotline Miami games, you should probably check out Shakedown: Hawaii on the platform of your choice, because chances are it is on whatever you can think of. Shakedown: Miami is out now on PC, Xbox One, PS3, PS4, PS Vita, Nintendo Switch, 3DS, Wii, Wii U, and will be out on PS5 on December 15th.
