SaskTel is investing over $70 million to construct 74 new macro cell towers in rural communities in Saskatchewan by early summer time 2021.
“These new towers will assist to bolster and add capability to our community in order that we are able to proceed to fulfill the ever-growing demand for wi-fi information,” stated SaskTel CEO Doug Burnett, in a news release.
This undertaking marks the ultimate part of the provincial authorities’s Wi-fi Saskatchewan initiative, which was initially launched 2017.
The initiative is a multi-phase undertaking designed to extend connectivity within the province. The Authorities of Saskatchewan notes that after this remaining part is accomplished, SaskTel’s wi-fi community will develop to incorporate round 1,000 cell towers throughout the province.
“Whereas these 74 towers would be the remaining part of this initiative, we are going to proceed to work with SaskTel and our rural stakeholders to proceed to enhance communication throughout the province,” stated Don Morgan, the minister chargeable for SaskTel, within the information launch.
The federal government notes that this remaining part brings the whole funding in rural connectivity over the past three years to greater than $107 million.
