I Hope Sean Astin Does the Samwise Gamgee Voice
As you can probably tell by the title and sub-header, there will be a Nintendo documentary and, yes, Sean Astin will narrate it. Playing With Power: The Nintendo Story will be a five-part documentary series directed by Jeremy Snead. Snead’s earlier works include Video Games: The Movie and Unlocked: The World of Games, Revealed. Playing With Power won’t just begin with Nintendo’s venture into video games with the NES, but also reach back to 1889, when the company first started making playing cards and from there, tabletop games and toys.
This documentary series will reportedly feature interviews and thoughts from actor Wil Wheaton, Attack of the Show’s Alison Haislip, Nintendo of America co-founder Ron Judy, Atari co-founder Nolan Bushnell, Sega of America’s former CEO Tom Kalinske, Nintendo of America’s former president Reggie Fils-Aimé, and Xbox’s Phil Spencer. It sounds like we got a pretty well-rounded set of people in this, from friendly competitors to former leaders to fans who had grown up with Nintendo. Hopefully, they will be offering perspectives that everyday gamers have not considered or seen before.
Sean Astin, who also serves as an executive producer, said that this project was very “ambitious”, but that “little by little, over four years, the series really came together. I think we’ve created a five-episode journey that will open up the world of video games and this legendary company in a way that most people have never seen.” Playing With Power: The Nintendo Story will premier exclusively on Crackle on March 1st.
