Resident Evil: Village may well be a classic of the franchise. Biohazard: Resident Evil was a great installment despite taking a big risk, shifting to a first-person perspective and focusing on a new hero, with a story harkening back to the franchise’s roots. Village is taking what worked and incorporating a rural village that harkens back to Resident Evil 4, often considered the greatest in the franchise, and one of the greatest survival horrors ever made.
Story details – or, at least, official ones – are relatively thin on the ground. We know that returning hero Ethan is living with his wife, Mia, only for their peaceful life to be shattered when Resident Evil stalwart Chris Redfield shoots Mia several times and abducts Ethan to a mysterious village which is seemingly the home of more supernatural creatures such as witches, werewolves, and possibly vampires.
Sadly, a recent cyberattack has leaked some images, which we reported on earlier. Unfortunately, it looks like images are just part of what was released, as reports have rolled in that significant story details and marketing plans are also in the wild. Obviously this wasn’t Capcom’s intent, so exercise caution when browsing if you want to avoid spoilers.
In lighter (or planned, as it were) news, Capcom have revealed a couple of new screenshots and images from their upcoming game, including a creature with what appears to be a bat head – or something close to it. They’ve also released an image of a crumbling castle and another look at the mysterious lycanthropic beast we’ve seen previously. Given the amount of focus these beats have had it’s likely they’ll have a role akin to Resident Evil 4’s Doctor Salvador, a recurring enemy class who proved to be a deadly foe to Leon, with more health and stamina than other enemies and the ability to take Leon down with one swipe of his chainsaw.
