Apple has finally started manufacturing iPhones in India. As of now, only the iPhone SE 2020 is being manufactured in the Karnataka factory. Now that the manufacturing of the iPhone SE 2020 has finally started in India the customers will get a massive price cut on the device as well. Previously Apple India was importing the iPhone models including the iPhone SE which led to a 20 percent import duty tax on the device. Everyone knows how the iPhones being sold in India are more expensive than their US counterparts. The import tax along with the new GST rates made iPhones way too expensive for most Indians.
Now that Apple India has started to manufacture the iPhone SE 2020 in India the device has started receiving price cuts as well. On Flipkart, the iPhone SE 2020 is now selling for Rs. 35,999. One thing that was interesting was that Apple has squarely focused on the iPhone SE manufacturing right now. This move is a sensible one for the tech giant to increase its sale footprint in India and in the surrounding nations. Since India has better relations with countries like Indonesia, Vietnam, Thailand, Srilanka, and many more when compared to China it makes sense for Apple to invest in its budget device. The iPhone SE is the cheapest smartphone that Apple manufactures and it’s specifically made for the developing markets.
There are also rumours going around that Apple India may start manufacturing the next-gen iPhones in India as well. Even though these are rumours and the manufacturing of the new iPhone 12 series will not be happening in India as of now since the infrastructure is still being developed but it is possible in the coming years that Apple India will start manufacturing its devices from India.
Apple CEO Tim Cook has made it clear that the company takes the Indian market very seriously and wants to expand its presence in the region. Most of the smartphone sales in India are of android devices and even in the segment of iPhone SE most Indians preferred the Oneplus over Apple. It remains to be seen if these new discounts and Made in India badge will improve the sales of iPhones in India.
