More Remasters Are On The Way
Activision Blizzard is in a bit of hot water right now as they face a copyright infringement lawsuit over a Call of Duty character design. However, things aren’t all bad for the company as they have just held their fourth quarter 2020 conference call for the company’s investors. During this conference call Activision announced their intention to release more classic video game remasters this year.
Activision Blizzard chief financial officer Dennis Durkin was the one to tease the company’s intention to remaster classic games, stating that there will be some coming this year and that they will be announced in due course. Unfortunately, he never gave any hint as to what games may be in the works.
In recent years, Activision has revived many dormant series, publishing titles like Crash Bandicoot N’ Sane Trilogy, Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled, Spyro Reignited Trilogy, and most recently, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2.
Activision Blizzard own a number of properties, including the Call of Duty franchise. We’ve seen Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 get remastered releases over the past few years, so it is very possible there could be more Call of Duty remasters in the works –especially considering some of the older titles that haven’t seen some love in well over a decade.
There could also potentially be other Crash, Spyro, or Tony Hawk remasters in the works. While they’ve already released some of the most notable entries in those series, there are still many fan favorite games that Activision could re-release.
Regardless, only time will tell so for now, we just have to play the waiting game until something is announced –but considering the expected 2021 release date, an announcement shouldn’t be too far off.
What remasters are you hoping to see from Activision Blizzard this year?
