No More Classic Game Remasters Here
Vicarious Visions, most recently known for reviving the Tony Hawk and Crash Bandicoot series with their release of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 & 2, and the Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy. Under the direction of Activision Blizzard, Vicarious Visions has primarily focused on Activision’s titles up until now, but in a new announcement made to GameIndustry.biz, the studio will now focus their efforts on Blizzard titles.
“Going forward, the Vicarious Visions team of about 200 people will be employees of Blizzard and “fully dedicated to existing Blizzard games and initiatives…””. GameIndustry.biz editor, Brendan Sinclair reports.
A Blizzard representative told GameIndustry.biz that “After collaborating with Vicarious Visions for some time and developing a great relationship, Blizzard realized there was an opportunity for [Vicarious Visions] to provide long-term support,”. They didn’t indicate what titles the team is working on or what they would be doing in the long-term, but as far as remaking the classics goes, don’t expect another Tony Hawk or Crash Bandicoot title from the developer anytime soon.
Jen Oneal, Vicarious Visions studio head will now be serving as the executive vice president of development for Blizzard, and will be replaced as studio head by Simon Ebejer who has worked for the studio for the past four years.
Not a lot is known about what the studio will be working on moving forward, but fans of Vicarious Vision’s most recent titles are disappointed by the news.
Vicarious Visions not only successfully revived the Crash Bandicoot IP, but also made one of the best remakes of all time with THPS 1+2
