Valve Isn’t Interested in Apple vs Epic Games
Apple recently subpoenaed Valve Corporation in an attempt to drag the publisher into its legal battle with Epic Games, but Valve isn’t interested in involving itself in the legal battle. Valve claimed that the request was too broad and asked for confidential information and it would be an extraordinary burden on the staff. Epic Games’ Fortnite is available right now for Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, PS5, Nintendo Switch, PC, Mac, and Android.
“Apple and Valve have engaged in several meet and confers, but Valve has refused to produce information responsive to Requests 2 and 32,” said a joint discovery letter. “Epic’s various mobile and non-mobile distribution options are central to disputed issues of market definition and market power.”
Valve was also quick to point out Apple’s hypocrisy, potentially hurting the technology giant’s case with Epic Games, stating the company previously argued that the market involved platforms where Fortnite was available but was now focusing on the mobile world. While Apple subpoenaed Valve in an effort to get data to support its case, it looks like Valve would take Epic Games’ side on the lawsuit if anything, but ultimately the corporation isn’t interested in being involved.
Apple requested info on Steam’s yearly financial performance, plus availability details for 436 titles, to help gauge the total Epic Games market size to no avail. Are you glad that Valve isn’t getting involved in the lawsuit between Epic Games and Apple? Let us know in the comments below!
