Something Evil Lurks at Winterlake
We first wrote about Tormented Souls back in August of last year, but we haven’t heard much about the game since then. The survival horror returns back to the genre’s roots with fixed camera angles, albeit with a modernized control team for an increased level of dynamism.
Sadly for those looking forward to the game, it looks like it’ll be coming to one fewer platform, as the PS4 release has been canceled. No word from publishers PQube as to why that is, especially as the game will still see release for the Switch. PlayStation fans looking forward to this one may need to wait until they can upgrade to the PS5 or Series X/S.
The game sees protagonist Caroline investigating the mysterious disappearance of a set of twins, only to wake up naked in a bathtub in a mansion turned hospital crawling with monsters. The game is set to combine old-school exploration and combat with puzzles akin to modern point and click games, with the ability to modify items while in the puzzle. Perhaps we’ll see some influence from the Nonary Games series? Well, it looks like the difficulty might be there. In an interview with Pushsquare, brothers Gabriel and German Araneda – leaders of developer Dual Effect – said: “For us, puzzles have been one of the toughest things to get right since the line between easy and too hard varies a lot from person to person. But for now we taking the risk of having some hard puzzles, and we’ll apologise later.”
The game drops for PS5, Switch, Xbox Series, and PC. A physical edition is available at select retailers, including Funstock.com – which have an exclusive Sun and Moon coin as a bonus.
