“Serebii Update: Pokémon World Championships 2021 has been cancelled. World Championships 2022 to be in London”
The event was supposed to take place this coming join in London, England. This marks the second time the event has been cancelled as last year’s Pokémon World Championships 2020 was also cancelled. The original event was scheduled to take place at the ExCeL London from August 14 to 16, 2020.
Following the cancellation of the original event, The Pokémon Company has expressed their commitment to honoring London’s commitment to host the World Tournament –whose location changes from year to year– by allowing them to host the 2021 tournament.
Now that the Pokémon World Championships 2021 have also been cancelled, The Pokémon Company still intends on honoring this commitment as the Pokémon World Championships 2022 are set to take place in London next year yet again. The last Pokémon World Championships took place in Washington in 2019.
The Pokémon World Championships hosts the World Championship tournaments for Pokémon Sword and Shield, the TCG, and Pokkén Tournament DX. All invitations for this year’s events will be carried over to next year.
