If You Weren’t Excited Already, You Should Be Now
The Callisto Protocol isn’t even out yet, but it’s already looking to be one of the most exciting horror games of the decade. Inspired by Dead Space – which director Glen Schofield worked on as executive producer – the game has captured the attention of gamers all around the world with just one trailer, even though we know next to nothing about the game.
One person who’s excited is Robert Kirkman, who’s company Skybound Entertainment have announced a collaboration with Striking Distance. If that name sounds familiar, you’ve probably heard of The Walking Dead, the bestselling horror comic book that grew into a multimedia juggernaut encompassing books, multiple TV series, video games, and multiple appearances at Universal Studios’ annual Halloween Horror Nights events, and in a statement Kirkman says he “can’t wait to explore similar possibilities for The Callisto Protocol with Skybound’s multiplatform expertise. We’re excited to be working on this IP alongside the game’s publisher, KRAFTON.”
The Callisto Protocol takes place in the PUGB Universe, but it looks like there’s big plans for The Callisto protocol. Could we be seeing the first entry in a new franchise? It won’t be the first time a game has been created with a larger universe in mind – Unknown 9, due for release later this year, has likewise grown to include a podcast, novels, and a comic book. The difference is that Robert Kirkman is already a horror legend, so there must be something extra special about The Callisto Protocol to get his attention.
Speaking of the collaboration, KRAFTON’s Head of Global Business Development and Studio Management, Ashley Youngsun Nam, said “KRAFTON is thrilled to join forces with Skybound Entertainment to help us bring Striking Distance Studio’s ambitious new take on survival horror to life.”
