Audio Heaven
We here at COGconnected hope you’ve been good this year. After all, with the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X being the most hotly sought-after items on the market this holiday season, Santa is only going to have so many to go around. Did you say your prayers? Take your vitamins? Give ‘The Last of Us Part 2’ a rating below four? If not, my sincerest wishes go out to you that you’ll be a part of the next generation come winter 2021.
But for everyone else that’s sitting with a shiny new console adorning their entertainment centers – or if you’re one of the mad lads that spent your girlfriend’s birthday gift money on a 3080 – this is the place for you. You’ve beaten the crowds, the wait times, the paralyzing uncertainty of whether or not you’ll play Cyberpunk in all of its glory. And now you need a set of cans that will squeeze every drop out of that crisp, sexy, immersive, next-generation audio.
Look no further. If you’re struggling to figure out which headset might work best for you, then take a stroll through our “Best Video Game Headsets: Holiday 2020 Gift Guide.”
If you’re looking to get the competitive edge on your opponent, the Epos Sennheiser 602s are going to bring you to the podium. Being ultra-comfortable and stylish to boot are only the tip of the iceberg for these top-of-line headphones. It won’t be long before you’re sold on the difference that the 602s make due to their proprietary transducers. The acoustic performance is phenomenal, and if you’re looking for a microphone that shares that same level of quality, the advanced noise-canceling features will guarantee your teammates miss not a word. The 602s are set at a bit of a premium price, but I can’t deny that these have been the best headphones I’ve used in a long time.
I know Razer has a fantastic reputation for their headsets. Even still, I can’t help but be surprised by just how much I love the Blackshark V2. I said it in my review earlier this year, but these have been a miracle for someone that has never truly found a headset that – when worn with glasses – remains comfortable for hours on end. But the V2s are just that. Oh, and they sound pretty good too. The 50mm drivers used to separate the highs, mids, and lows are effective and work to bring together a package that will blow you away for the price. The removable mic leaves a bit to be desired, but that isn’t to say it won’t get the job done. I expect this year that these will be found under many trees.
If you want something that you can rely on, the tried-and-true Arctis 7p (PlayStation) and 7x (Xbox) is what you need. Having already won awards, including IGN’s “Best Audiophile Gaming Headset,” the Arctis over-the-ear headphones continue to be a staple for casual and professional gamers alike. With lossless 2.4 GHz wireless audio designed for ultra-low latency gaming and a battery that lasts upwards of 24-hours, these cans are designed to keep you in the game longer than Korean professionals that stay in internet cafes all day. And as such, there may be no better headset for all of the wannabe world champions out there.
