Bandai Namco Swears That Wonderful News is Coming in 2021
If you love the Tales of series, then you may already know this, but Bandai Namco finally addressed the upcoming Tales of Arise in the series’ 25th anniversary live stream. Specifically, they addressed the absence of news regarding the long-awaited console game, which has been delayed indefinitely thanks to COVID-19. The good news is that Tales of series producer Yusuke Tomizawa assures us that production on Tales of Arise is happening and it is going well. The bad news is that we’re not getting any real updates on the game until 2021. He does promise that when it comes, it will be fantastic, so we’re tentatively looking forward to the upcoming announcement.
Tomizawa also promised that the series’ 25th anniversary celebrations would continue into 2021, and the upcoming second half to the celebrations would “blow the first half out of the water”. Does this have anything to do with that Tales of Luminaria trademark that no one has announced? Maybe. We’ll have to wait and see.
It’s been quite a while since we talked about Tales of Arise, so here’s a quick recap of what we know so far. Like many Tales of games, it’s set up to focus on the complicated relationship between two worlds and their inhabitants. Unlike previous Tales of games, Arise doesn’t mess around. This outing will feature depictions of colonialism and resource exploitation. Don’t believe us? Check out this official description: “On the planet Dahna, reverence has always been given to Rena, the planet in the sky, as a land of the righteous and divine. Stories handed down for generations became truth and masked reality for the people of Dahna. For 300 years, Rena has ruled over Dahna, pillaging the planet of its resources and stripping people of their dignity and freedom.”
Sounds like colonialism to us.
