England’s opening One-Day International against South Africa has been postponed just an hour before the start of play after a number of positive Covid-19 tests returned positive.
The Independent understands that the positive results have come from the home side in Cape Town, and due to safety precautions the match cannot go ahead as planned due to the risk of spreading coronavirus across both squads.
It’s understood that all three matches will still go ahead as the game will be moved to Sunday, ahead of the second ODI on Monday before a third encounter next Wednesday.
An announcement is expected ahead of the planned 11am GMT start.
