Rust Continues to Gain Momentum Despite Its Age
According to the official Steam sales charts for last week, Rust carried sales on the PC platform for the big war that happened last week. Rust sales seem to be driven by several streamers who have taken to the survival game such as xQc, Valkyrie, Shroud, Myth, CourageJD, SypherPK, and TimtheTatman. Rust is available right now on PC and Mac.
For the first time in a while, Rust was able to bring in over $1,000,000 in Steam revenue on two separate days during January alone. Previous to the rise in Rust’s popularity on Steam, Cyberpunk 2077 retained a sales lead since it released, but Rust has officially taken its spot at the top of Steam’s sales charts. Rust viewership remains consistently high on Twitch, typically remaining in the top three most viewed games on the streaming service at any given time. Some gamers expect the Rust bubble to burst, but right now the 2013 title remains a powerhouse.
Twitch streamers that are gaming Rust have been sharing an OfflineTV server which provides them with lots of content to share, while limiting the access to the server to content creators. While the server has an extensive set of rules, it looks like several players aren’t following them, at least the ones about not raiding bases of players that aren’t there. Team Rocket seems to run the OfflineTV server and gamers that aren’t part of the coalition are on thin ice, though xQc remains dedicated to keeping Rust open to noobs and veterans alike.
