Evil May Have Found Its Biggest Home Yet
Resident Evil: Village is en route to being the most ambitious in the franchise yet. Outside of utilizing the full potential of the RE Engine, it’s taking advantage of the power of the current gen of console gaming – hopefully, without sacrificing quality on the last-gen, either. Given the overwhelming reception for Resident Evil 7, which took the series in a bold new direction, Village is building on the previous game’s gameplay and mechanics and bringing them into a more open environment, and according to Dusk Golem – who’s been called the best known Capcom leaker, and has a record of getting things right – we have a lot of reason to hype this up.
You play as Chris during part of RE Village, so yes. https://t.co/F6OyGVCrDd

First of all, we could be getting multiple playable characters. This isn’t a new innovation in the series at all, but it’ll be interesting how that lends itself to first person – especially given that the first, Chris Redfield, once punched a boulder weighing an estimated 137383.6 kg into a volcano.
Golem also claims that we’ll be getting a third playable character, who he describes as mysterious, and with female pronouns. This may not narrow it down much, but one thing to keep in mind is that we already have a character who A) fits that description and B) has a habit of turning up in even-numbered entries. Could Ada Wong be making an appearance and, if so, could her star-crossed lover Leon be close behind?
As far as I know, she’s still playable. Given I don’t know that as a concrete fact. I will say she’s a bit mysterious at the moment, isn’t she? https://t.co/W1aY7NNCzh

Secondly, we’re allegedly getting a small open-world, which will be a first for the franchise. We don’t necessarily have anything for scale but it’s worth noting that games like The Evil Within 2 have had relatively small open worlds previously, and done a lot with them. It looks like the intent is to encourage replayability and exploration, especially if you decide to revisit areas where the mysterious Duke appears to find whatever secrets he left behind.
Of course, as always, we need to take any leaks with a grain of salt – but Dusk Golem does have a track record for accuracy, so let’s say… cautiously optimistic?
