Spooky Scary Halloween Action
The warnings were true. The witching hour is upon us and Pumpkin Jack walks abroad. Today, his might is unleashed, and all the kingdom will quake before him. Fortunately, we’re on this side of the screen, and we can welcome the launch of Pumpkin Jack with open arms. We’ve been watching this game for a while, from its announcement to the release of its launch trailer, and you know how much we like nostalgic platformers, charming art, and cute spooks. We even reviewed the early demo! Spoilers, we liked it. And if you give this smooth and stylish indie game a chance, we’re sure you will, too.
This spooky 3D platformer will be set loose on Steam, GOG, the Nintendo eShop EU/NA, and the Epic Games Store today. It’s already available for Xbox One on the Microsoft Store. And there’s a 20% launch discount, meaning you can scratch that Halloween itch for $29.99, €29.99, or £24.99 on all platforms. Quite the achievement for a single developer! Hats off–or heads off, if you want to be seasonal–to Nicolas Meyssonnier, the man behind the pumpkin. He’s crafted a wonderfully creepy and creepily wonderful tale of good, evil, and all the spooks in between. In the words of today’s launch press release: “Pumpkin Jack is a spooky scary 3D platformer in which you embody Jack, the Mythical Pumpkin Lord. Dive into an epic adventure through otherworldly landscapes and help the Evil annihilate the Good!”
That’s a hell of a premise to start out with! But it’s far from all this game has going for it. Above and beyond the nostalgic gameplay, spooky atmosphere, dynamic battles, and weapon collecting, players will also be faced with more esoteric challenges. You must solve physics, gravity, and reflection-based puzzles, inhabit a pumpkin head to accomplish specific tasks, and confront an action sequence with new exclusive gameplay in each level. Spooky enough for you?
