Back to The Days of Sprite Art and Wild Bosses
As a card-carrying member of The Old, I’m always psyched to see long-lost RPGs get a second wind. SaGa Frontier is getting remastered for a Summer 2021 release on like, every platform. Yes, even that one. What on Earth is a SaGa game? Why, I’m so glad you asked!
We’ve been getting SaGa titles in one form or another since the Game Boy days, though they went under a different name back then. The first three titles are coming to the Switch this December. You might remember the Final Fantasy Legend series? Or the more recent Romancing Saga games, perhaps? There’s even SaGa Scarlet Grace! The point is, we’ve had a ton of SaGa games find their way here again, and now we’re getting one more!
For those of you unfamiliar with the franchise, there’s a few common elements in these games. You’re usually controlling a whole squad of main characters, they start their journeys in different locales, and the story goes from 0 to 60 before you can blink. Also they tend to be pretty beautiful games for their era. A newer, sexier version of a classic like SaGa Frontier is great news, especially if it does well. That could lead to the re-release of SaGa Frontier 2, which is an absolute top tier 2D RPG. You can check out the announcement trailer below. SaGa Frontier Remastered is coming to PS4, PS5, PC, iOS, and Android next Summer. We’ll let you know the moment we get a concrete/North American release date.
