Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Saturday paid tribute to social activist and former Haryana MLA Swami Agnivesh and mentioned that he fought for “the marginalised sections of our society” with “nice braveness and conviction”.
“I’m grieved to study of the passing away of Swami Agnivesh. All his life he fought with nice braveness and conviction for probably the most marginalized sections of our society fearless in defending their rights and in going through as much as those that exploited and oppressed them and terrorised the poor, usually at nice private danger,” Sonia Gandhi mentioned in a press release.
She mentioned that Swami Agnivesh was the “strongest and efficient voice for the susceptible and the defenceless” and added , “Swami Agnivesh’s vitality and religion in constructive social activism was certainly admirable and provoking. He labored with equal dynamism to advertise interfaith understanding and dialogue, non-violence, and justice for the tribal folks of Chhattisgarh caught in a violent battle.”

The Congress chief additional mentioned, “He shall be extensively mourned, and India will honour the reminiscence of this courageous and noble soul. Might his soul relaxation in peace.”
The social activist was related to Arya Samaj and had led a marketing campaign towards bonded labour.
Swami Agnivesh died on Friday on the Institute of Liver and Biliary Sciences in Delhi. He was affected by liver cirrhosis and was critically in poor health.
