This Pokémon Diamond and Pearl Comparison Is Excellent
The Pokémon Company recently confirmed the upcoming remaster of Pokémon Diamond and Pearl during a Pokémon presents and it has the community divided. Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl sparked some controversy with fans who didn’t play the originals but fans from the DS era were familiar with the chibi approach to the graphic design. Pokémon Sword & Shield are available exclusively for the Nintendo Switch right now, while Pokémon Diamond and Pearl are coming later this year.
Pokémon Diamond and Pearl are not being made by Game Freak, but instead, it’s being developed by ILCA, with the original director Junichi Masuda overseeing production. YouTube channel GameXplain quickly produced a side-by-side comparison between the original Pokémon Diamond and Pearl games and Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl. This visual comparison showed any doubters of the upcoming remakes that the original art design is carrying forward to the Nintendo Switch rather than ILCA adopting an entirely new style, the Let’s Go style, etc.
While Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl turned off a lot of new fans of Pokémon with its small characters reminiscent of the recent remaster of The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening, it looks like the team is remaining true to the original design. When shown side-by-side, the footage of Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl does a great job of showing the similarities and the differences between new and old.
