Virtual Reality Is Coming to the PlayStation 5
PlayStation has finally shared some information on their plans for continuing and expanding their Virtual Reality platform. The next-generation of the PlayStation VR headset will feature “dramatic leaps in performance and interactivity,” says Sony in new blog post detailing some of their plans for the system moving forward.
“Players will feel an even greater sense of presence and become even more immersed in their game worlds once they put on the new headset.”
Sony states that they are taking everything they learned from launching PSVR on PS4 to now, in order to develop the best possible successor to the system. The next-generation VR system “enhances everything from resolution and field of view to tracking and input.”
The planned next-generation VR system won’t just improve performance over last-gen, but also be simpler to set-up –plugging into the PS5 with a single cord. The newfound simplicity of the next-gen PSVR won’t be the only hardware improvement made as Sony excitedly describes the system’s new control, claiming that it will “incorporate some of the key features found in the DualSense wireless controller, along with a focus on great ergonomics.”
Unfortunately, PlayStation 5 owners will have to wait a bit longer to get their hands on the next iteration of PSVR as it will not be launching in 2021.
Currently the original PlayStation VR headset designed for the PlayStation 4, can be used on PS4, PS4 Pro, and PS5 with the latter two systems having some enhanced features and graphics for certain titles.
For now, Sony mentions a few upcoming VR titles you can look forward to like After The Fall, Sniper Elite VR, and Humanity, as well as some recent and popular VR titles like Astro Bot: Rescue Mission, Tetris Effect, Blood & Truth, Moss, Beat Saber, and Resident Evil 7 biohazard.
