Here Are 2020s Highest Rated Games
There were a ton of incredible games released last year, and according to Metacritic’s scoring system, these were the best of the best. Persona 5 Royal was the highest rated game released in 2020 according to Metacritic. The enhanced version of 2016’s Persona 5 landed a 95 Metacritic score following its release in March, 2020. This is the highest Metascore we’ve seen since 2018’s Red Dead Redemption II, as 2019’s highest rated game was Divinity: Original Sin II – Definition Edition for Nintendo Switch which had a Metascore of 93.
It is no surprise to see the definitive edition of Persona 5 come in with such a high score considering the original release’s 93 Metascore, but it is surprising to see an enhanced edition of an older game claim the top slot for the year.
There were quite a few games right on its tail as Game of the Year winner The Last of Us Part II came in with a score of 93. Also coming in with a Metascore of 93 was Game of the Year nominee Hades, Half-Life: Alyx, and Ori and the Will of the Wisps. Despite its incredible response this past year, Ghost of Tsushima barely made the top 100 as it can be found all the way down in the 97th position with a score of 83–a full 10 points lower than The Last of Us Part II.
Here are a couple of other notable scores from the year. Demon Souls has a score of 92, Animal Crossing New Horizons has a score of 90, Doom Eternal has an 88, and Final Fantasy VII Remake has an 87. Despite the disastrous console launch, Cyberpunk 2077 has a score of 86, and right behind it comes Crash 4: It’s About Time and Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales with scores of 85, followed closely by Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla with an 84.
