City of Gold
About a year and a half ago, Payday publisher Starbreeze Studios announced that it had fallen on financial hardship. To remedy this, they decided to get Overkill to start working on new Payday 2 DLC. A few DLC packs later, Starbreeze is past these money troubles, but that does not mean they are done with Payday 2. Last week, they teased new content called City of Gold. This is a short teaser, so obviously there is not a whole lot being shown off. Really, there is just a hint at a location.
When you think City of Gold, you may jump to El Dorado, but it appears that Overkill is sending players somewhere in Asia. Overkill says, “The port of San Francisco brings in a wide variety of merchandise from Asia and elsewhere, and some of it is of the more shady kind. Who knows what secrets can be uncovered in the city of gold?” We are shown some concept art of a Japanese man with tattoos up and down his arms, which suggests involvement with Yakuza gang members. Not the Yakuza game series, which Payday 2 has already crossed over with in previous DLC.
There is no word on the release window for this DLC, but hopefully we will hear more about it in the coming weeks or months. There is also no word on Payday 3 progress, but last we checked, it is in active development. Payday 2 is available now for PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.
