The Elder Scrolls Online Going to Oblivion Next
While the latest The Elder Scrolls Online expansion took fans of the Bethesda series back to Skyrim, the next expansion will take them back even further in time as the hellish Oblivion is coming for the MMO. Gates of Oblivion was officially confirmed during The Game Awards 2020 and it teased the towering demon Lord of Oblivion, Mehrunes Dagon. The Elder Scrolls Online: Gates of Oblivion doesn’t have an official release date, but it’s set to launch sometime in 2021. ESO is available right now for Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, PS5, Google Stadia, Mac, PC, and through the Xbox Game Pass Ultimate lineup.
Fans of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion will surely flock to The Elder Scrolls Online with the release of Gates of Oblivion. The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion released on previous-gen consoles way back in 2006 and currently there are modders hard at work bringing Oblivion to Skyrim level visuals, but Gates of Oblivion may be the perfect way to rediscover the Oblivion plane on current-gen and next-gen hardware. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim was confirmed for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate during The Game Awards 2020, so it’s likely that fans can catch up on Oblivion soon on the subscription service as well.
Considering The Elder Scrolls fans already took on the Lord of Oblivion Mehrunes Dragon in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, it’ll be interesting to see how the plot is handled in the upcoming expansion. Similar to the recent Skyrim expansion, this could simply be explained by making the events of the expansion take place several years before or after the events of TES IV: Oblivion. The Elder Scrolls VI is still in development, but Bethesda didn’t show off anything for it during The Game Awards 2020.
