Nintendo has the first Nintendo Direct of the year will be uploading tomorrow, February 17 at 2:00PM PST/5:00PM EST. The Direct will be roughly 50 minutes long and will focus on already available games like Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, in addition to new announcements of games releasing in the first half of 2021.
Nintendo made the announcement on their Twitter page early this morning:

Not only is this going to be a particularly long Nintendo Direct at nearly an hour of content, but it is also the first traditional Nintendo Direct in nearly a year and a half with the last one taking place on September 4, 2019 –ending the over year long debate on whether or not the medium was dead.
In this time, Nintendo has had other smaller directs focusing on specific games or series like the Super Mario 35th Anniversary Direct, or the Monster Hunter Direct. There have also been the Nintendo Direct: Partner Showcases and the Indie World Showcases. However, this is the first direct since before the start of the COVID-19 pandemic to include a variety of first and third party information.
So, what might be in the direct? Well, we know there will be something related to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, and since the announcement and release of Sepiroth at last year’s Game Awards, we currently do not know of any future DLC fighters, so there is a very good chance we will see an announcement of a new character.
Aside from that, both Zelda’s 35th anniversary and Pokemon’s 25th anniversary are coming up on Feb. 21, and Feb. 27 respectively. Both are milestone anniversaries and it already appears as if Nintendo will be giving them some love similar to Super Mario’s 35th anniversary so there very well could be some announcements there as well.
Regardless, we won’t have to wait long as the Direct will be uploaded tomorrow night. Keep an eye on COGconnected for all the biggest Nintendo Direct announcements.
