They’re Treating Steam Like a Kickstarter Campaign
We are living in a time where dystopian and post-apocalyptic fiction has declared its dominance over just about every other genre–possibly because of what’s going on outside our houses at this very moment. It’s got good reason to stand supreme, but that doesn’t mean we can’t get bored of all this relentless darkness. This is why it matters so much that My Time at Sandrock, the sequel to My Time at Portia, takes place in the world’s most wholesome post-apocalyptic setting. And we’re far from the only ones who are thrilled about a chance to make the world better because My Time at Sandrock is now on over 100k wishlists on Steam in just two months. For the sequel to a game that wasn’t expected to sell a million copies, that’s a lot. We can see why people are so excited–Sandrock looks pretty great.
Developer Pathea Games says that they’re treating this like an extension of the Kickstarter, by which we mean that they’ll be adding new features to the game when certain wishlist milestones are reached. For the 100k milestone, the devs will “add a facial make-up function to Sandrock beyond what Portia offered, and players can do their eye shadow, lipstick, and other cosmetic things to better express their style. Other goals include deeper furniture customization, a play-date function between players in multiplayer mode, and the highly-requested feature of the player’s children growing up to at least school age.”
This cel-shaded sandbox RPG will continue the spirit of its predecessor, placing players in the shoes of a Builder who travels to the city-state of Sandrock. There, you will have to repair and revitalize the town, gather resources, fight bandits, and build your workshop into a pillar of the community. Sandrock is located in an arid desert not too far from Portia, which means players will be faced with some brand-new challenges related to the new environment. The dev team at Pathea Games went to the real-life Gobi Desert for inspiration, and we can’t wait to see what they’ve come up with.
My Time at Sandrock will be available for PC on Steam Early Access in Spring 2021. It will then arrive on WeGame, Epic Games, GOG, and other platforms in 2022. Finally, we can expect it on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and next-gen consoles at a later date.
