Looks Like You’ll Need to Wait for the Precious a While Longer
Gollum may not be the most obvious choice for a hero in a video game based on the Lord of the RIngs franchise. True, he can be danerous if he wants to be, but his best known portrayal has half of his psyche being weak-willed and cowardly. True, he has stealth on his side, but is that enough?
Well, yes, according to developers Daedalic Entertainment, who first announced the game in 2019. At the moment we know, well, next to nothing about the game apart from that there will be a focus on stealth – which fits Golum’s portrayal and skillset. If the above teaser is anything to go by, Mordor will have a part to play, and we know that Gollum is familiar with the area, given that he spent so long wandering it. By the time that Lord of the Rings takes place he’s had seventy years to hunt for the Baggins who took his beloved precioussss (sorry) so maybe we’ll see that as the focus of the game? And will we get to use the ring for ourselves, and take advantage of its powers?
Unfortunately, we’ll need to wait a while longer to find out, as it was quietly announced that the game has been delayed until 2022 in a PR email where the developer announced a co-publishing deal with Nacon, which states “Developed for Xbox and PlayStation consoles, Nintendo Switch, and PC, the game will be released in 2022”.
It’s worth noting that technology has come a long way, and perhaps the team behind Gollum want to take a little while to make sure they’re using the new features to their advantage? After all, the game will reportedly make use of the PS5’s adaptive triggers and haptic feedback, as well as feature other nifty features like ray tracing – what other surprises does Gollum have in store? We’ll find out next year.
This is apparently a hot take but I don’t know why Gandalf is considered so powerful. Saying he’s basically a God doesn’t help. Why not elaborate down in the comments, on Twitter, or on Facebook.
