Reporters asked Mayor Sam Liccardo about reports of a fire at the home of the shooting suspect.
“That is certainly the information that I have, is that there was a fire at the shooter’s home, there was nobody found inside the home, thank God,” Liccardo told CNN affiliate KGO in a live interview.
“This is every mayor’s worst nightmare,” he added.
Liccardo would not elaborate on the cause of death of the shooter or the number of fatalities — but said the number released by Homeland Security, seven, matches what he heard.
Remember: The Santa Clara County Sheriff’s office has not released information on number of people killed or injuries yet.
CNN is contacting the mayor’s office for more details on the number and if it includes the shooter.
