It looks like LG has given in and decided to start making Mini-LED TVs.
The company is calling these sets ‘QNED’ because it’s combining its ‘Quantum dot colour’ with its ‘Nanocell’ tech and Mini-LEDs to create QNED. Not to be confused with Samsungs QLED TVs.
What’s really important about LG moving into the Mini-LED game is that it should allow the manufacturer to produce reasonably priced television sets with OLED like picture quality.
LG’s 2021 Mini-LED lineup will include 10 models ranging all the way up to 86 inches. And these TVs will be available in either 4K or 8K configurations.
For gamers with either a PS5 or an Xbox Series X, these TVs will be even more appealing since they’ll also offer 120Hz refresh rates. Now that the new consoles are out and can play some games at 120fps, I’d expect more TVs to be released with this high-end refresh rate spec.
LG says that it can pack up to 30,000 Mini-LEDs into its 86-inch model, which provides a fantastic contrast ratio of 1,000,000:1.
