Get Ready to Step Into Oblivion
Final Fantasy XIV’s next expansion, Endwalker, has a lot to be excited for. You’ll get to explore new areas – including the moon – there’s a new, elephantine race, new raids, and we’re getting a new primal – and this one is drawing right from Final Fantasy X, the greatest in the series (which is a hill I am prepared to die on.)
While Final Fantasy XIV does have a summoner class, not all traditional Eidolons/Aeons/GF’s et al are summonable, and those that are (Phoenix, Bahamut, Garuda, Ifrit, Titan) appear in a weakened form. However, more do appear as primals – among the most difficult boss fights in the game. If you thought Garuda was hard enough? Well, clearly you’ve not played Final Fantasy X. The gigantic, fish-looking creature is chained in place, and her overdrive, Oblivion, sees her enemies drawn into an alternate dimension where it punches them repeatedly, and at great speeds – it isn’t uncommon for Anima to hit 99,999 damage, making her a fierce opponent.
Luckily, players only have one mandatory fight with the fierce beast, and adding her to your team takes a lot of effort, and if you don’t do it right you could end up locking yourself into facing some of the game’s superbosses just for the chance.
And if that wasn’t enough, some fans think they’ve figured out some information about the mysterious melee DPS that’s joining the roster. Producer Naoki Yoshida often wears fun shirts during streams that offer subtle hints about new content, and some were quick to point out that during a recent stream his shirt was adorned with skeletons and scythes. Fans have been speculating that we’ll either be getting a scythe-wielding fighter or else a necromancer, raising the dead to attack foes. With the beta in April, it’s likely we’ll see some more information coming soon, but don’t discount the ability of gamers to figure out the most subtle hints.
