Seven things to know from Monday’s game
1. RJ Barrett had the best game of his young season. His 26 points and 10 rebounds were both season highs, as his performance was good for his first double-double of the year. It was his second-straight 20-plus-point game.
2. Julius Randle was an assist away from a triple-double, and finished with his fifth-straight double-double, as his 28 points were tied for his second-best mark of the season. He has scored 26-plus points in four contests this year, and his 15 rebounds were also a season-high.
3. The Knicks started the game up 24-14 in the first eight minutes of the game. But in the next two-and-a-half minutes, the Hawks went on a 13-2 run to get themselves a one-point lead. The Knicks closed the first quarter with a two-point lead, but all momentum had quickly been shifted.
4. Eventually, New York was down by as many as 15 in the third quarter. But a 10-2 run in the final minute of the third kept the Knicks alive heading into the fourth.
5. It started off a tough night from behind the arc for the Knicks, hitting just one of their first 10 three-pointers, but they hit five of their next eight from the perimeter en route to a fourth quarter lead. A big Austin Rivers three with 1:25 left in the game gave the Knicks a four-point lead. The Knicks wound up hitting six of their final 11 shots from three-point land.
6. Immanuel Quickley was a spark plug off the bench, dropping 16 points in 19 minutes on the floor. He had the best plus-minus on the team, with the Knicks plus-17 during the 19 minutes he was on the floor.
7. The Knicks defense once again stepped up to the plate. Entering Monday night, the Hawks were scoring 120 points a game, the second-most in the NBA behind Milwaukee’s 124.5.
