Devs Say They’ll Work Hard to Translate the Game in the Future
Tale of Immortal dropped on Steam last week, and it’s already proven to be a big hit, rocketing up to the top of the Most Popular and Top Seller charts worldwide. During peak hours in China the game is managing a staggering 176,000 concurrent players – more than heavyweights like Grand Theft Auto V or Apex Legends.
The game is the latest in a new genre of cultivation sims – RPG’s inspired by the popular Xianxia genre of Chinese literature where you ascend to Godhood through training, adventuring, and meditation. Unfortunately, the game is only available in simplified Chinese right now, so if you were hoping to check the game out for yourself – especially after seeing its meteoric rise through the charts – you’re out of luck, at least for now.
Still, it looks like we’ll get a translation in the future – or, at least, that it’s something that the devs are looking into. According to a forum post in December by dev and Steam user MidnightCerealKiller, they’re aware of the challenges of translating such a text-heavy game into different languages, but it’s something they’re working hard to implement.
“The amount of words in the game and their difficulties could be very time-consuming,” MidnightCerealKiller wrote, “but we will work hard to have at least English localization in the future!”
Is it confirmation? No. This is a small team, after all, and ultimately we have to look at what’s feasible as much as what’s possible, but it proves that this is something they’re looking into.
Tale of Immortal is currently in early access, with a full release due out in around a year – is this the release window for the translation? Possibly. The good folks over at PC Gamer have approached Lightning Games for comment, but haven’t received anything quite yet.
