Everything’s Coming Up Absolutely Terrifying
In Sound Mind, the upcoming psychological horror game that keeps creeping into our heads when it’s late and we’re trying to sleep, finally has a release date. It also has a new trailer that amps up the game’s already surreal and deeply unpleasant atmosphere to new heights. These facts are connected. If your day just hasn’t been stressful enough and you need some creeping certainty that something is terribly wrong in your life, along with some excellently disquieting music, then what are you waiting for? We tracked down this window into In Sound Mind’s reality-bending world so you wouldn’t have to. Go on. Give it a watch. What’s the worst that could happen?
Do those last few seconds count as a jumpscare? We’re not sure, but either way, the visuals give us chills. This trailer gives an excellent glimpse of what the final game will be like, and especially how it will feel to play. By which we mean, it has a deeply compelling and concerning atmosphere that left us increasingly sure something was going to jump out, but it never did, and when the monsters finally appeared by the end we were ready to roll out of our chairs and hide under something until they went away. Unfortunately, In Sound Mind doesn’t play by FNAF rules, so you have to actually flee the monsters instead of suffering one jumpscare and starting over. This probably makes for a more immersive game, but it sure does a number on our delicate nerves.
