Take-Two Confirms More Astounding GTA V Statistics
According to Take-Two Interactive, Grand Theft Auto V just had its most successful year since its launch way back in 2013. During a recent quarterly earnings call, the publisher confirmed more units of GTA 5 were sold in calendar 2020 than in any other year except for 2013, with sales exceeding 140 million units. They also confirmed that GTA Online had more players each month in 2020 than any other month since launch, showing the continuous potential of the online GTA experience. GTA V is available right now for Xbox One, PS4, PC, previous-gen consoles, and a new next-gen version is on the way later this year.
Not only have gamers flocked to the Grand Theft Auto series more than ever with GTA V, GTA Online retained more players in 2020 from month-to-month to year-over-year. Participation in GTA Online game modes, events, etc. only saw growth according to Take-Two Interactive, with veteran players joining noobies in celebration of more GTA content to explore. Revenue for GTA Online continued to rise throughout 2020 as well, with Take-Two noting a 28% increase year-over-year for the quarter.
During the recent Take-Two Interactive quarterly earnings call, the publisher confirmed that Red Dead Redemption 2 also remains a success. The latest installment in the Red Dead Redemption series has officially sold over 36 million units worldwide, and Red Dead Online saw more players in December of 2020 than it ever has since the 2018 beta launch. The publisher also confirmed that NBA 2K21 has officially sold over 8 million units, while Borderlands 3 has sold over 12 million units.
