Did you know that Google Pay or GPay was removed from the Apple AppStore? Yes, Apple had removed GPay or Google Pay from its AppStore last week and we still don’t know what exactly transpired between the two tech giants but now Google Pay is back and all is well. The “issue” that Apple had with GPay remains unknown. So unknown in fact that a Google spokesperson had told The Indian Express that the app would return once the issue was fixed. What the exact issue was is not stated and shrouded in mystery. Now that GPay is back we can safely assume that the “issue” has been fixed.
Google Pay or GPay was not removed from the Google Playstore for android users. It seems the issue was only affecting the Apple iOS system. Google Pay has become one of the most prominent payment apps in India along with apps like Paytm and PhonePe. A spokesperson from Google had told the Indian Express “A small number of Apple iOS users might experience persistent payment failures on their transactions. Our teams are working to fix it at the earliest. Meanwhile, affected users can reach out to Google Pay support through the app for help. We apologize for the inconvenience to our users. The Google Pay iOS app will be briefly unavailable on the App Store; users will be able to see the new app update reappear shortly”.
One interesting thing to note here is that only Indian users of GPay on Apple were affected. Since Google Pay is also operational in other countries but not in a UPI system like it is in India. If you are an iOS user we would highly recommend installing other UPI apps on your device as well. PhonePe is a great alternative to GPay if you just want a UPI payments app. Paytm also offers a UPI payment system but there are other aspects of the Paytm app that many users don’t appreciate.
