Expect It to Have a Slightly Adjusted Schedule
Koelnmesse and game – The German Games Industry Association have officially announced that like Gamescom 2020 before it, Gamescom 2021 will be a completely digital event. Many companies are unable to take part in a physical event during the pandemic, to say nothing of the danger to attendees, so the decision was made to host Gamescom 2021 online and free of charge, which is pretty awesome. Last year, Gamescom 2020 saw over 100 million video views, more than 50 million unique users from 180 countries, and 370 partners from 44 countries, and this year they’re hoping to expand this success even further. The plan is to offer the gaming community a thoroughly planned-out online event that makes Gamescom stronger than ever.
Felix Falk, Managing Director of game – The German Games Industry Association states that: “We, as the game industry, also want to use gamescom to show that innovations and bold developments are the best way to deal with such crises. With this in mind, the gamescom team has been hard at work for months on gamescom 2021, especially on the digital elements.”
One new thing the team is planning for this year is Gamescom Epix, a social media quest meant to entertain the community in the build-up to Gamescom proper. The Gamescom Now content hub will also be completely redesigned and brought back with extra features and a new look. That said, the new online B2B platform Gameszom Biz will be launching next year, as its features require a hybrid format to be fully enjoyed.
Gamescom Week will start with Devcom on Monday, August 23rd, with the Opening Night Live taking place on Wednesday, August 25th. The event’s main days will be on Thursday and Friday, August 26th and 27th.
