Horror Games Come in Waves
As soon as one game manages to make it big, a lot of other games start to follow their example. Resident Evil brought with it Silent Hill and Dino Crisis. Resident Evil 4 paved the way for Cold Fear and Dead Space. The rise of online multiplayer took a little longer to latch on with the horror genre, but eventually settled on the assymetrical multiplayer we’ve seen in Dead by Daylight or Friday the 13th. Phasmophobia looks like it might have started a new trend, and Forewarned is jumping on the bandwagon.
It’s also doing something few horror games have done before and focusing on mummies – specifically the classic, Egyptian kind. The game sees you and a team of archaeologists exploring mysterious structures that have popped up in the Sahara – structures which reportedly act as the resting place for the Mejai – the guardians of the pharoahs who have been blessed with supernaturally long lifespans. Predictably, the Mejai are still (somewhat) alive and kicking, hunting you down as you raid their tombs for treasure.
Some of the games features are:
-
PC & VR Crossplay Supported
Play in PC mode, or play in VR mode for increased immersion with haptic feedback. -
Positional Voice Chat
Strategize with your teammates with in-game voice chat. -
Loot Collection System
Use your collected loot to upgrade your equipment and purchase more powerful tools. -
Embrace the Curse of the Mejai
When you die, you will have the option to return as a servant of the Mejai. Will you hold on to a semblance of your former self and help the remaining survivors, or demonstrate loyalty to your new master?
The last thing is bound to put a twist on the game; while Forewarned isn’t the first game that gives you the ability to come back after being defeated, it’s not common that the feature comes with the ability to choose your allegience.
The game drops on Steam later this year. Let us know in the comments, on Twitter, or on Facebook.
