It happens every fantasy football season. A little-known, underrated, not-really-discussed player comes out of nowhere and either delivers some clutch, memorable weeks or finishes the season on the scoreboard way higher than ever expected.
The breakouts — we’re always looking for the next one.
And Liz Loza, Andy Behrens, and Matt Harmon already have some players in mind whom they think are poised for a breakout 2021 season.
Liz goes with Tee Higgins, whom Andy once called an “A.J. Green replicant” for Cincinnati. Higgins showed clear rapport in his rookie season with Joe Burrow before the quarterback suffered his season-ending injury. With a healthy Burrow next season, Higgins — a dominant red-zone weapon — has all the tools to be a consistent breakout pick.
Matt goes with another Higgins as his pick — Rashard Higgins of the Cleveland Browns. Matt has been excited about Higgins since college, and the receiver has flashed seemingly every time he’s been on the field. With the Browns offense finally in the good hands of a competent coaching staff, Matt says to draft Higgins confidently next season.
Andy’s pick is Mike Gesicki, the athletic marvel at tight end for the Miami Dolphins. While Gesicki hasn’t put it all together completely, the key thing with him is he showed clear rapport with Tua Tagovailoa, Miami’s quarterback of the present and (supposed) future. Gesicki — a target hog and touchdown threat — looks poised to catapult into the fantasy tight end tier directly under Travis Kelce and Darren Waller for 2021.
