EVE Online Players Continue to Help COVID-19 Relief
EVE Online gamers have raised over $100,000 for the World Health Organization’s COVID-19 relief efforts through an organized charity program known as PLEX for GOOD. PLEX for GOOD and EVE Online worked together to use the mechanics of EVE Online’s economy to have real-world value in this push to rid the world of COVID-19. EVE Online players have been helping scientists gather data since the pandemic began, they’ve recently broken Guinness World Records, and now they’ve run the most successful fundraising effort from PLEX for GOOD thus far. EVE Online is available right now for PC and Mac.
EVE Online gamers utilized in-game funds to help combat the Australian bushfires last year, and thanks to PLEX for GOOD, their in-game currency has helped raise $135,500 for the World Health Organization’s COVID-19 relief. EVE Online players have been busy lately, recently setting a double Guinness World Record achievement after an intergalactic battle that lasted several months. In June, EVE Online players began helping scientists gather data to help fight the virus in what ways they could, and this recent fundraising marks the most successful fundraising effort from PLEX for GOOD to date.
EVE Online players have been donating towards COVID-19 relief efforts since April 3rd, and their efforts to help combat the virus continue to this day. PLEX for GOOD and EVE Online working together means that players can even exchange an in-game ship for funds that go towards the World Health Organization’s COVID-19 relief efforts. Many games allow players to buy in-game currency, but this partnership between EVE Online and PLEX for GOOD allows gamers to easily donate to a cause.
