You Know, For Obvious Reasons
So, this may come as a surprise to you, but that thing that has drastically changed the lives of nearly everyone on planet Earth for the past year is still kind of an issue. Turns out, that COVID-19 being the number one cause of death in the US in 2020 is making people a little uneasy about what’s to come, and rightly so. Gatherings dubbed “super spreader events” are no bueno, so pretty much throughout 2020, conventions and tournaments of every kind have been moved online where they can. Epic Games has decided to continue that trend with its Fortnite events through 2021.
In a blog post from yesterday, Epic Games addressed their plans for Fortnite presence in the gaming community for next year. They says that FNCS (Fortnite Champion Series) Trios will be running throughout the upcoming year, as it has been a big success thus far. They will also be expanding the Competitive Mode scene with other types of tournaments, which will be occurring more frequently and with more unique conditions. As far as in-person events and tournaments, Epic Games has decided to not hold them in 2021. That includes Fortnite World Cup 2021. It is simply a matter of safety for players and employees.
Of course, Epic Games has every intention of returning to in-person tournaments and events, but it just is not the time. Like many organizers and companies, Epic Games has decided that safety is worth the wait to return to normal. Fortnite is available to play on PC, mobile devices, Nintendo Switch, PS4, Xbox One, PS5, and Xbox Series X.
