And This Isn’t Even the Full PS5 Version
Every day brings us closer to December 10th, and thus to Cyberpunk 2077‘s official launch. Yeah, some copies of the game are already out there–if you’ve got one of them, you’re a very lucky person–but the rest of us have to make do with gameplay videos, trailers, and Night City Wire. Fortunately, CD Projekt Red has our backs. Hot on the heels of a clip showcasing how Cyberpunk 2077 runs on Xbox One and Xbox Series S|X, we’ve got another clip demonstrating how it runs on PS4 and PS5. Spoilers: while the game has a certain brutal functionality on PS4, seeing it on PS5 may have given us a heart attack from sheer glee.
The most beautiful–and emotionally affecting–part of this trailer finds V from the Nomad lifepath sitting in the passenger seat of Jackie’s car, looking around at the overcast sky and neon lights of Night City, while he tells you that legends are born here. V was dismissive, but we agree with Jackie. The PS4 version of that scene was already incredibly atmospheric. We could practically feel each bounce of the car, and with Konrad Oldmoney’s GR4VES pulsing in our ears, it felt like anything could happen. Then the visuals transitioned to PS5 and we could see every raindrop, the lights on each building, the reflection of red light outside the car playing over Jackie’s face. We caught ourselves holding our breath. And all of this was just from the PS4 version running on PS5. What’s the full PS5 edition going to look like?
No matter what concerns we may have about its thematic loyalty to the original Cyberpunk tabletop game, Cyberpunk 2077 is a feast for the senses. Even if it plays like garbage–and judging by the fluid movements we’re seeing in these gameplay teasers, it probably won’t–we’d still recommend you give it a shot just for these gorgeous visuals. Night City may be a terrible place, but it’s a stunning one. The dark future has never been so bright.
Cyberpunk 2077 will release on December 10th, 2020, for PC, Xbox One, PS4, and Stadia. It will also be playable on Xbox Series X|S and PS5. A free next-gen upgrade will become available for owners of the Xbox One and PS4 versions respectively at a later date.
