Surprise, Surprise
Nintendo Switch games sometimes get “surprise” launches. By that, I mean they launch without being announced beforehand, but sometimes those launches illicit a “yeah, I saw that coming” response. However, sometimes they genuinely surprise. Control Ultimate Edition is one of those times where were are pleasantly surprised. Yesterday’s Nintendo Direct Mini revealed the release of Control on Nintendo Switch, which has won many awards from its release on other platforms. It’s beautiful and powerful, and you might think that it’s a little much for the Switch to handle, and it is. That is why it will be delivered via cloud.
Control Ultimate Edition comes with all its DLC. Until this week, the game was only playable on PC, Xbox One, and PS4, but now Nintendo Switch owners can play it, with an asterisk. Control will not be downloadable like many of the Switch’s other games. Instead, you can download a launcher which includes a demo. After a little bit of playing, you will be prompted to buy it. Then you will be able to stream Control from the cloud. This means you will have to have a stable and constant internet connection, which takes away the whole “on-the-go gaming” feature of the Switch.
Still, Control on the Switch is an impressive feat, you know, for the Switch. It’s also one of those games you will want to sit down and play, so maybe streaming it won’t be much of a deterrent. Control Ultimate Edition is available now for PC, PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and will be available on PS5 and Xbox Series X at launch.
