The CBI has filed a case towards two prime officers previously with the tax anti-evasion wing of the GST for allegedly demanding a bribe of Rs 5 crore to settle a case probed by them, officers stated on Saturday.
The officers — ex-deputy commissioner service tax anti-evasion in GST Division Sudha Rani Chilaka and division superintendent Sreenivasa Gandhi Bollineni — posted in Hyderabad had, on April 15, 2019, accepted Rs 10 lakh from an organization, Infiniti Steel Merchandise India Ltd, which was going through a probe in tax credit score situation, they stated.
The arrests had been made following a 11-month-long preliminary enquiry throughout which the probe company gathered sufficient prima facie materials to proceed towards the officers.
The CBI sought permission from Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman to proceed towards the officers which was accorded to the company in March this 12 months, information company PTI reported.
Bollineni Gandhi has investigated a number of key instances whereas with the Enforcement directorate just like the Rs 100 crore demonetisation fraud case booked towards Hyderabad’s Musaddilal Jewellers and PMLA instances towards mining baron Gali Janardhan Reddy.
In 2019, Bollineni Gandhi and his spouse had been charged in a disproportionate property case to the tune of Rs three his crore.
