Something Big is Coming Down the Pipeline
So we all know Bungie has been making a ton of changes to Destiny 2–making the Sleeper node grind easier, revamping the new player experience in the new expansion, taking randomized loot boxes out of the shop, all that good stuff. But sooner or later, every developer must move on to new and different things. Except for Capcom. But we’re not talking about Capcom, we’re talking about Bungie, and Bungie CEO and Chairman Pete Parsons just gave a lengthy interview where he touched on the studio’s future plans. Let’s take a look.
We already knew that Bungie was working on a game similar to Destiny. We also knew they were currently hiring for said game. However, this will be a new IP, not another installment of Destiny (and doesn’t that sentence sound weird when you say it out loud). “We started about three years ago, Jason and Jonny Ebbert and Zach Russell and a few of us started working on new incubations,” said Parsons. “…they’re certainly about building games, but their focus is on really building teams. How do we build up teams that know how to work together and most importantly, can create magical things?”
That’s a good question. We don’t really have an answer, but we are excited to hear that these new projects have been in the works for quite a while–before Bungie was given $100 by NetEase to develop “‘new experiences.’ It bodes well for quality control, assuming we’re not entering a Duke Nukem Forever scenario. Fingers crossed that we’re not entering a Duke Nukem Forever scenario.
More tentatively good news with a side of pandemic reality from Parsons: “I think, I am not sure if I am allowed to say, but we are hiring probably at a faster rate than we thought we would. Now, I’m going to give you a crazy stat. There is something like almost a quarter of everybody who now works at Bungie has never set foot inside the studio.”
It’s good to know that Bungie is still thriving despite 2020 being 2020. We can’t wait to see what they have in store for us next.
