Billy Crudup is pulling double duty for Apple.
The Morning Show Emmy winner will star in and exec produce Hello Tomorrow, a retro-future 10-episode straight-to-series dramedy for the iPhone maker.
From writers and creators Amit Bhalla and Lucas Jansen (Bloodline), the half-hour dramedy is set in a retro-future world and centers on a group of traveling salesmen hawking lunar timeshares. Crudup will lead the cast as Jack, a talented and ambitious salesman whose unshakeable faith in a brighter tomorrow inspires his co-workers, revitalizes his desperate customers, but threatens to leave him dangerously lost in the very dream that sustains him.
Jonathan Entwistle (Netflix’s The End of the F***ing World) will direct the series, which hails from MRC Television. Crudup will exec produce the series alongside Bhalla and Jansen. Blake Griffin will exec produce via his Mortal Media banner alongside partners Ryan Kalil and Noah Weinstein.
The casting comes as Crudup is in production on season two of The Morning Show, the first scripted series that was picked up at Apple. The newsroom drama, which earned Crudup an Emmy win and SAG nomination, is expected to return this year.
Hello Tomorrow also marks Apple’s latest series pickup from MRC TV, joining Elisabeth Moss starrer Shining Girls and the Will Ferrell-Paul Rudd entry The Shrink Next Door. The dramedy joins a roster of other originals including Ted Lasso, Dickinson, Mythic Quest, For All Mankind, Home Before Dark, Little America, See, Servant and such upcoming titles as Physical, Pachinko, Schmigadoon and Foundation, among several others.
Mortal Media, the film and TV production company, also has The Rocketeer sequel in the works for Disney and a reboot of White Men Can’t Jump for 20th Century Studios. The company is repped by UTA and Ziffren Brittenham.
Crudup, who counts Almost Famous, Spotlight and 2009’s Watchmen among his credits, is repped by CAA and Lighthouse Management.
