LG’s mid to high-end TVs are still have liquid crystal displays (LCD) but there’s an extra later of nanocells designed to filter out impure colours for a more natural, lifelike picture.

OLEDs are as synonymous with quality as TVs are with Black Friday, but they are expensive (even on Black Friday) and there are plenty of options from LG as well as Panasonic and Sony.

We liked: nicely balanced sound
We didn’t like: more fiddly to use than rival TVs
Screen size: 55-inch
We mentioned LG’s OLED rivals earlier and here’s one of them. Sony’s premier 4K TV has the X1 Ultimate processor, which should give better picture quality than any chip that Sony has made before coupled with audio technology that vibrates the screen to create sound. Is it the best OLED though or should you stick with LG?

We liked: strong 4K picture
We disliked: unbalanced sound

From one high-end Sony TV to another, but this one has an LCD screen rather than an OLED one. The 9505 is Sony’s top-tier 4K LCD for 2020 and when it launched it was £1,599. Now it’s more than a third cheaper, but high-end doesn’t always mean high quality.

We liked: fantastic sound
We didn’t like: colours can look unnatural

This big screen 65-inch set is one of Samsung’s most high-end 4K TVs for 2020. It’s packed with cutting-edge tech, including HDR10+ for improved contrast control in HDR content, and a new positional sound feature that makes audio come from different parts of the screen for a more natural effect.
QLED sets have one clear rival and that’s OLEDs. There are plenty of options from LG, Panasonic and Sony, so check our review to see if the Q80T is your best option.
